One of the greatest parts about the last race was the number of people we reached and connected with through the blog and the race, from new friends to old friends to total strangers. So if you know of anyone who might be interested in what we're doing, please share, and invite, and include...

DAY 1

Race day is always very emotional. Team Ciao Bella was down at the docks early, to tie up a few last minute bits and pieces. Each wearing a black band, in memory of Rob Meek.
There is something to be said about tossing off the mooring lines and departing the docks. There is an eruption of applause from the crowds on the deck, and the Royal Cape bell rings wildly. There are also many people that come out on yachts to wish you well.
The Swift Family
The start was slightly different to last time. It included a lap around Table Bay. Great for spectator value, but it’s a pity that given the light breeze, the sun will probably set with table mountain still in view.
The wind is very light and from the north west. We are heading out due west in hope of finding something more punchy. We have two gorgeous Zebra spinnakers that are dying to be flown.
Thanks to everyone that came down today. Also for the texts, calls and posts. The support has been tremendous, and we look forward to sharing our adventure with you.

  1. We understand that from a race value point of view the 'tour de Bay' was not optimal, but we immensely enjoyed the view from our vantage point, our balcony at Dolphin Beach, beer in hand!
To see Investec Ciao Bella appear early amongst the much bigger competitors was a great sight, and we could read the Investec branding on hull and main.
Go for it. And keep the blog up to date!

  3. I agree - very disappointing that there were no coverage - on the Afrikaans news they showed Ciao Bella pushing back after dropping the mooring line and Ray Matthews referred to your previous race success !

Hopefully there will be a program some time ?
We can not see you on the Xtra-Track yet - all the yachts on top of each other - probably due to the short distance traveled !!!

We hope you get that "punch"

  9. Hi Robinson's. Here is wishing you favourable winds and ''plane'' sailing. SO glad to see the Sailing family aces at it again. Do have a question for the crew.....WHY IS IT THAT, NO MATTER WHAT COLOUR BUBBLE BATH YOU USE, THE BUBBLES ARE ALWAYS WHITE. Best regards Reyn and Elzabe. Oh and thanks for the dvd you sent me of your last race.
